Nintendo has unveiled its new Switch 2 handheld console, which will be released sometime in 2025.
Developers outside Nintendo’s plans have been eagerly awaiting details about what new hardware features its next console might offer. Since the Nintendo Wii, the company has prioritized unique technologies like motion-sensor controls, second screens, and portability over graphics and processing power. This time, it’s more of the same.
The device looks like a larger version of the Switch with a few extra features. The Switch 2 features redesigned Joy-Con controllers that snap onto the side of the console, a new stand and dock, a larger display, and more ports.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with some Switch games, but noted that some games may not be supported or fully compatible.
The company promised to share more details about the console later.
